Summary: Crédit Mutuel gives retail members no in-app crypto trading or custody, so owning Bitcoin means moving euros from your account to a MiCA-licensed exchange.

Bybit fits Crédit Mutuel members because Bybit EU GmbH holds a MiCA licence from Austria's FMA (FN 636180i) and sits on the AMF white list under free provision of services. SEPA deposits cost nothing, spot fees are 0.10%, and it lists 2,000+ assets.

On the Crédit Mutuel side, most retail accounts allow up to 15,000 € per instant transfer, and the Verification of Payee prompt asks you to enter the beneficiary as Bybit EU GmbH before releasing payment.

Can I Buy Bitcoin with Crédit Mutuel?

Yes, though not from inside the Crédit Mutuel app. The group runs no retail crypto desk, holds no spot Bitcoin for members, and lists no crypto ETN in its brokerage. Owning Bitcoin means opening an account at a regulated French exchange, sending euros across, and buying there.

What little digital-asset work exists sits at group level, not on your Eurocompte. Fortuneo, the Arkéa online bank, still offers no native crypto and only lists exchange-traded products inside an ordinary securities account.

Crédit Mutuel permits SEPA payments to crypto-asset service providers authorised under MiCA, whether licensed directly by the AMF or passported from another EU regulator. Both transfers we sent from a Crédit Mutuel de Bretagne account this year cleared, though the first above 10,000 € brought up a Confirmation Mobile prompt and a short follow-up from the caisse that a plain answer about the destination resolved the same day.

How to Buy Crypto with Crédit Mutuel

Sending a SEPA transfer from the Crédit Mutuel app to Bybit is the cheapest way for members to hold withdrawable crypto. SEPA Instant credits in seconds.

Steps to buy crypto with Crédit Mutuel:

  1. Create an account: Sign up on Bybit and pass KYC with your CNI or passport. French residents onboard through Bybit EU GmbH, the Austrian MiCA entity, rather than the global site.
  2. Copy the deposit details: In Bybit, open Buy Crypto > Deposit > EUR and pick SEPA. Note the IBAN, beneficiary name and reference exactly. A changed or missing reference is the usual reason a deposit stalls in review.
  3. Check your plafonds: In the Crédit Mutuel app, go to Virements, then Plafonds de virement. Your standard SEPA ceiling and instant-transfer cap are written into your convention de compte and differ by caisse. To lift either, adjust it in the app or message your conseiller, and the new limit usually applies within a working day.
  4. Send the transfer: Add Bybit's IBAN as a new bénéficiaire. Since 9 October 2025, the Verification of Payee check cross-references the IBAN against the beneficiary name before release, so type Bybit EU GmbH in full. Confirm the payment with Confirmation Mobile, an app notification plus your six-digit code, or the Digipass reader if you use one.
  5. Buy crypto: Once the euros land, open BTC/EUR or another pair and place your order. Above a few hundred euros we use a limit order, since Instant Buy hides a wider spread than the 0.10% on the order book.

Fees and Transfer Limits for Crédit Mutuel Customers

Most of the cost lives on the exchange side. The transfer out of Crédit Mutuel is free when set up correctly, and it is where first-timers most often get stuck, because the bank fixes its plafonds federation by federation rather than at group level, the same decentralised pattern seen across the caisses régionales at Crédit Agricole.

Crédit Mutuel costs and limits

  • Standard SEPA transfer: Free, settling in one to two business days. The default daily ceiling sits around 10,000 € and adjusts in the app.
  • SEPA Instant (virement instantané): Free from your app or the espace client since the 9 January 2025 EU rule ended instant-transfer surcharges. The standard cap is 15,000 € per operation on most retail accounts and can be raised, while some Sud-Ouest professional accounts reach 100,000 €. Ordered at a branch counter, it is charged at the standard SEPA rate.
  • Verification of Payee: Mandatory across SEPA since 9 October 2025. Enter Bybit EU GmbH exactly, because a shortened name throws a mismatch warning, and overriding it moves any fraud liability onto you.
  • Wero: Crédit Mutuel's instant peer-to-peer service is capped and only reaches enrolled individuals, so it cannot fund an exchange.
  • Card deposits: Crédit Mutuel Visa and Mastercard work on most exchange gateways, but surcharges run 1.5% to 3.5%. We use a card only for a first small test.
  • AML thresholds: Crédit Mutuel answers to the ACPR under the LCB-FT rules of the Code monétaire et financier. Funds returning from an exchange above 10,000 € can prompt a source-of-funds request, which exchange statements and your 2086 and 3916-bis filings resolve quickly.

Bybit fees

  • SEPA deposit: Free, whether standard or instant.
  • Spot trading: 0.10% maker and taker at the entry tier.
  • Instant Buy: A wider spread sits inside the quoted price. Useful for a first test, uncompetitive at size.
  • Crypto withdrawal: Network fee only, which varies by asset.
  • EUR withdrawal back to Crédit Mutuel: Free or a small flat fee over SEPA.

A free instant transfer paired with 0.10% spot keeps the all-in cost of a 1,000 € Bitcoin order close to a single euro, well under any card gateway or ETN wrapper on the French market.

Best Exchanges for Crédit Mutuel Customers

The close of the MiCA transitional window on 1 July 2026 thinned the French market. Binance stopped serving French clients, and every venue below either holds an AMF agrément or passports a licence from another EU regulator. Bybit EU quotes its pairs in euros and MiCA-compliant stablecoins rather than USDT.

Crédit Mutuel Cryptocurrency Policy

Crédit Mutuel sells no crypto to individuals, holds none in custody, and does not block SEPA payments to authorised platforms. Neither Fortuneo, its Arkéa online bank, nor the Alliance Fédérale network, CIC included, offers a retail crypto product.

The regulatory backdrop matters more. MiCA has governed crypto services in France since 30 December 2024, and the PSAN grandfathering window closed on 1 July 2026, so only firms holding a MiCA CASP agrément may now serve French residents.

Operating without one risks a two-year prison term and a 30,000 € fine under articles L. 54-10-4 and L. 572-23 of the Code monétaire et financier.

Binance pulled new French services from 1 July after failing to secure a MiCA agrément, so check the AMF white list or our MiCA-licensed exchanges before sending funds.

On compliant venues, USDC and EURC replaced USDT through 2025, and since 1 January 2026 DAC8 has reported your balances and transactions to the DGFiP automatically, with French gains declared on form 2086 under article 150 VH bis.

About Crédit Mutuel

Crédit Mutuel is one of France's five largest banks, a member-owned cooperative serving more than 30 million customers. It runs as 18 regional federations under two autonomous poles. Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale is the larger and owns CIC and Cofidis, while Crédit Mutuel Arkéa owns Fortuneo.

Because each pole and each local caisse sets its own pricing and plafonds, no single Crédit Mutuel transfer limit exists, a trait it shares with fellow cooperative Banque Populaire.

Members bank through the Crédit Mutuel app and the espace client, with Confirmation Mobile handling strong authentication. As a Significant Institution, the group is supervised directly by the European Central Bank under the SSM, alongside the ACPR.

About Crédit Mutuel

Bottom Line

Crédit Mutuel treats an authorised crypto exchange like any other payment destination. Set your instant-transfer ceiling before the first send, let the Verification of Payee check match Bybit EU GmbH, and euros reach a regulated platform in seconds at no cost.

Bybit leads for Crédit Mutuel members on price and asset range, with free SEPA in, 0.10% spot and 2,000+ assets under an FMA licence the AMF recognises. Coinhouse is the Paris-domiciled alternative for anyone who wants an AMF-agréé company with French-language support.
