Data Availability Project Avail Announces Token Airdrop

Avail, a blockchain data-availability project, announced an upcoming token airdrop of 600 million tokens to 354,605 eligible wallet addresses. This “unification drop” targets blockchain developers, testnet contributors, users of major rollups like Polygon and Optimism, as well as other significant contributors within the Avail community.

Eligibility details, previously leaked on social media, were confirmed in Avail’s recent blog post. Participants can verify their claims until May 4, with token distribution set for the launch of Avail’s data-availability solution. Avail also highlighted its development of new infrastructure layers, enhancing connectivity and security across different blockchain systems.

Tether Introduces USDT and Gold Stablecoins on TON

Tether is introducing its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin USDT and its gold-backed stablecoin XAUT to The Open Network (TON) blockchain. USDT will be available on TON starting April 20, with XAUT to follow. This marks an expansion for XAUT beyond Ethereum and adds to the multiple blockchains supporting USDT.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, emphasized that this development would facilitate seamless value transfers and enhance liquidity and activity on the blockchain, thus broadening access to decentralized applications in various domains including payments and gaming.

Mango Markets’ Exploiter Avi Eisenberg Convicted of Fraud

Avi Eisenberg, a crypto trader, has been convicted by a Manhattan jury of fraud and market manipulation connected to a $110 million theft from Mango Markets in October 2022. Arrested in Puerto Rico in December 2022, Eisenberg faced charges including commodities fraud and wire fraud. He is set to be sentenced on July 29 and could receive up to 20 years in prison.

Despite his defense arguing that his actions complied with the decentralized finance protocol’s rules, the evidence presented, including his preparatory internet searches, indicated he was aware of the criminal nature of his actions.

Aptos Partners with Microsoft, Brevan Howard, and SK Telecom

Aptos Labs, developers of the Aptos layer-1 blockchain, is partnering with Microsoft, Brevan Howard, and SK Telecom to launch Aptos Ascend, a comprehensive suite designed to introduce banks and large institutions to decentralized finance. This initiative will include tools for regulatory compliance, transaction privacy, and KYC checks, leveraging Microsoft Azure and Azure OpenAI services.

Brevan Howard will contribute its expertise in digital asset management, while Boston Consulting Group will assist in implementation. Aptos aims to provide a secure, compliant, and scalable DeFi gateway, bolstering the connection between traditional finance and blockchain technology.
